It was officially the end of Winter on 1st April ! I can't say I'm not glad to see the back of it! That short burst of sunshine really does make you feel sooooo much better!
In this blog post I am going to talk a little about the flower meanings behind the iconic spring flowers of both the Daffodil and the Tulip, tell you about a styled shoot I organised and some exciting course collaboration!
Tulips and Daffodils
The different varieties of Tulips and Daffodils (Narcissi) are immense! This is just selection I have grown this year.
The Tulip was always traditionally said to be the flower of love introduced to the Netherlands in the 1500's , whole houses and cargo were exchanged for just a few Tulip bulbs from Turkey. Such was their worth! They do not seem to have any mythological history, poets and authors of the past seem to have passed it by!
In contrast the Daffodil or Narcissi varieties have a big mythological past! It was said that a handsome youth named 'Narcissus' rejected the love of a Greek Nymph called Echo. The Gods decided to punish him for being so cold hearted. It is said that Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection whilst stopping for a drink at a nearby spring, he leant so far down he fell into the water and disappeared. Where Narcissus had last been seen by the waters edge a Narccsi flower grew! This humble little flower therefore symbolizes vanity and death - however luckily in more recent times it has just come to symbolize the first signs of Spring!
I was lucky enough to be featured in Margots Wedding Magazine in their special Edition Last month. If you are planning a wedding I seriously suggest you check out Margots Wedding blog - it is full of great suppliers and ideas on making your Wedding Unique and personal to you!
I have had some gorgeous Weddings to create in March alongside a styled shoot which I organised with the help of some epic suppliers local to me.
I wanted to create a unique Bohemian vibe to the shoot, as a lover of colour the only photographer for the job was @byvicki (http://www.photographybyvicki.co.uk/)
Together we created a sweet Boho type tent, a Macrame Backdrop to die for and a horse wrapped in his own foliage garland! It was soooo good!
Vicky is working hard behind the scenes to edit the 100's of shots we got and we can't wait to see them all, but here's a little teaser of what went on behind the scenes. Amazing suppliers included;
Kayleigh Hodder Hairdressing
Made up Wedding Make Up
Rock the Frock Sussex
DC Custom Leather Designs
Romsey Vintage Hire
White Design Bridal
I am sooooo sorry if you have been waiting on workshop news! I have been working on it I promise!
The Wonderful BellaCrafts will be hosting my next workshop which is in the Easter Holidays on Saturday 13th April, I would love it if you could make it to learn how to create an Easter arrangement for your Easter celebrations!
We will be using a variety of Spring blooms and Easter accessories. I will be teaching you how to condition the flowers and arrange in a gorgeous tin pot without the need for floral foam! All materials and refreshments are included.
Bring the children along too, they can learn and help you create your floral design together or they can create their own piece of art at BellaCrafts. Please checkout and book the workshop through their Website, see link below.
We are also going to be doing an Autumn workshop at the end of September and of course the Xmas Wreath Workshops on the 1st two weeks of December, so please keep an eye out for forthcoming dates soon.
